Bookkeeper from Redmond accused of embezzling $350,000

Submitted by Rose Egge on Wednesday, September 23rd, 02:59pm

A Redmond resident, and bookkeeper for the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation, has allegedly confessed to embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the charitable organization over several years .

According to court documents, Susan Elizabeth Kinney allegedly wrote checks from the foundation to herself totaling more $356,000.

On Tuesday, King County Prosecutors charged Kinney with 123 counts of theft.

Police said the thefts started in 2003 and continued for five years.

Prosecutors say Kinney, 48, wrote checks to herself that typically matched amounts that had been approved by the board for donation to charity.

She allegedly altered photocopies of the checks kept by foundation to make it look like she was paying the charities.

In 2008, an accountant noticed discrepancies in the foundation's financial records, and the group's director requested copies of the checks from the bank.
